Competition Center
Rendering & Plans
Revision effective October 2009: Due to site
limitations, the building orientation has been changed so that the narrow
side will face up hill. As part of this change, SRT management has agreed to
move the snow making tower closer to the tree line and bury all overhead
electrical wires in the vicinity of the building. This change also permits a
larger second floor. The extra space could be used for dry land training
equipment such as stationary bikes or Skiers Edge machine. Revised floor
plans shown below.

Rendering of Competition Center at the
bottom of the Exhibition slope
This
Competition Center will bring multiple benefits to SRRC athletes, members, and
others in the community.
-
The 24' x 32' basement level of the competition center
will function as a storage facility for the large quantity of equipment
necessary to support ski racing.
-
The basement will also feature tuning benches for tuning
on race days and tuning clinics
-
The 24' x 32' first floor of the competition center will
function as a slopeside training center where athletes and coaches can
conduct classroom discussions and review and analyze videotaped training
runs during training sessions. By encouraging better training opportunities,
the athletes of SRRC are likely to improve on their high-level performances,
enhancing SRRC’s reputation as one of the best race clubs south of New York
state.
-
The open first floor can also serve as an educational
center for coaches and race officials. It takes about 50 volunteers and
officials to run a USSA race. Although SRRC has a reputation for running
some of the most organized races in the state, we sometimes have trouble
finding space for the continuing education necessary for officials and
coaches.
-
The first floor will also function as a warming area and
multi-purpose gathering center promoting social interaction and camaraderie
among club members. It will include a refrigerator and microwave for those
wishing to eat slopeside.
-
The viewing deck off the first floor will provide a safe
and comfortable location for spectators to observe races.
-
The 24' x 32' second floor of the building will function
as the timing center and meeting location for officials on USSA race days.
This function is currently conducted in an undersized shack on the race
slope. This floor could also be used for dry land training equipment such as
stationary bikes and Skiers Edge machines.
-
Ski Roundtop gains the prestige of having the most
functional competition center in the state, increasing the potential for the
club to host more income-generating USSA races.
