FRANK SHEIBLEY MEMORIAL
Race for Excellence &
Golf Tournament
Frank was a member of the Ski Roundtop Racing Club throughout his ski racing career. During the summer months he worked at Liberty Forge Golf Course as a groundskeeper. Frank attended Penn State University majoring in Turf-grass Science. His ambition was to be a ski racer and to coach young, aspiring ski racers during the winter season and to design and manage golf courses in the summer. For Frank, ski racing was not only a hobby, it was a passion and a way of life. His dream was cut short by a tragic automobile accident on December 17, 2004, near Sunday River, Maine.
Frank was in Maine to attend an Eastern Cup Slalom Race in preparation for his first season on the Penn State Ski Team.
Frank was a role model for many ski racers in the state and is remembered by his coaches and teammates as a talented young racer who's dedication and hard work earned him the admiration and respect of many. Frank's ski racing accomplishments were numerous. He was 5 time PARA State Team member, a 2 time winner of the Richard Whitney Memorial best male racer award.
His friend and SRRC teammate, Ryan Levendusky, said of Frank,
"He really loved ski racing. Anyone who
knew Frank knew skiing was his life. He put 150 percent into
everything involving ski racing. Frank will also be remembered as a
very caring individual who would do absolutely everything in his power
for the people he loved. He gave his very best at everything he put
his mind to during his life. He was a role model to many people both
inside and outside of skiing. Although Frank has gone to a better
place, the memories will remain with those of us who loved him."
Damon LaSalle, a Penn State Ski Team member said,
"He never got to ski a run for the team, but I know that he will be in all our hearts as we take ours." Both SRRC and PARA have established a Frank Sheibley Memorial Award, in honor of Frank. The awards are given annually to the most dedicated racer, male or female.
